Bay Rovers v Lyre
Bay Rovers picked up a deserved away win at Lyre on a day of mixed weather and in difficult conditions both sides tried to play neat football but conditions underfoot made that difficult at times. Bay started the game with several changes to their line up and struggled to find any cohesion in the opening encounters. Kevin Murphy was called upon to make a couple of last ditch clearances and Mark Keohane was putting in a battling performance to protect Andrew Goggin in the Bay goals. The opening goal was scored on 25 minutes when Darren Cronin's header was saved at point blank range following an excellent Busby Clayton cross and Shane McCarthy was first to react stabbing home the rebound.

The goal should have settled bay's nerves but Lyre came back strong and equalized on 30 minutes after a flowing move created space in the bay defence and a fine driven cross was turned home by Jonathan Deasy at the far post. The second half started strongly for Bay Rovers following a re-shuffle the lads appeared more comfortable in their roles and within 10 minutes they took the lead with Busby Clayton heading on a long ball from Andrew Goggin to release Connor Ellis and he made no mistake shooting past the advancing keeper into the bottom corner. The goal spurred on the visitors and on 50 minutes they extended their lead when Busby Clayton bravely blocked down an attempted clearance from the keeper and tucked home the ball to grab a deserved goal for himself after a good through ball from Shane McCarthy. Lyre tried in vain to get back into the game, having a goal disallowed for offside and pressing for a way back into the game but Bay Rovers saw out the remaining 25 minutes and almost extended their lead when Connor Ellis had a 25 yard free kick superbly saved by the Lyre keeper just before the end. Bay Rovers v Ballydehob
On Sunday Rovers first team were at home to Ballydehob in a relegation battle in the Premier division. A win for either could put them out of the relegation zone. Both teams started nervously with Rovers making most of the play. After 30 minutes Rovers took a deserved lead when Michael Casey played a great througball for Michael O Sullivan who shot into the corner out of reach of the Ballydehob goalkeeper. Rovers restricted Ballydehob took long range shots and went into half time leading 1-0. In the second half Ballydehob started to put Rovers under a bit more pressure but it was Rovers who had the best chance to make it 2-0 only to see the bal cleared of the line. Ballydehob pushed forward for the last 10 minutes but the Rovers defence held firm like they had done all during the game. This was a great win and takes Rovers out of the bottom 2. With 2 games left Rovers probably need one more win to be safe. All will depend on other games. All results can be found on the Rovers website at www.bantrybayrovers.com
