ROVERS U14
After an easy victory over Skibbereen's 2nd team Rovers U14 team took on Skibbereen's first team in a league match in Kealkill on Saturday the 9th of January. Rovers U14's put in a great second
half performance to complete an unlikely come back against Skibbereen to
win 5-4 after going 3-0 behind within 25 mins. The game started evenly
enough until Rovers centre back Thomas Flynn had to go off for
treatment to an injury. Before he returned to the action Skibbereen had
taken the lead and and scored twice more soon after. It looked all over
for a young Bay Rovers team but they rallied and pulled two goals
back in two minutes around the half hour mark. Darragh McElhinney got
the first when he finished to
the top of the net after an accurate crossfield pass from Kuba
Ratajczak. Shane McSweeney slotted the second into the bottom corner
after being set up by Ryan O'Sullivan. Skibbereen came back again just
before half time to lead 4-2 at the break. Bay Rovers dominated the
second half and 10 mins in pulled another goal back. Ryan O'Sullivan
picked up a clearance on the halfway line and beat three defenders
before firing past the keeper having being denied another score when
through a few minutes earlier. Kuba Ratajczak was denied another scoring
opportunity by a Skibbereen hand which only resulted in a free kick
soon after. With 15 mins left another Skibb hand ball in the area gave
Shane Murray the opportunity to level the scores and he cooly dispatched
the spot kick. Rovers pressed for the winner and it came with three
mins left. Shane McSweeney went on a mazy run beating several defenders
only to see his
initial shot blocked by the keeper but he managed to head in the
rebound to give Rovers an unlikely 5-4 lead which they managed to hang
on to complete one of the best come backs in the clubs history. This was
a fantastic team performance with everyony playing their part. Team -

At half time the teams were level at 2-2 with Barrt O Driscoll scoring in the 16th minute and Shane Keevers getting Rovers second on the 23rd minute. First up was an away game against Clonakilty AFC on the 2nd of December . Rovers who have been struggling to get any consistency going this season were put under a lot of pressure from the start by Clonakilty . Rovers defense dealt well with the attacks and the Rovers goalkeeper Donal Casey was in good form. In the second half Rovers got more into the game but were unlucky to concede a penalty 15 minutes from time. This proved to be the only goal of the game and Rovers fell to another defeat. Last Sunday rovers were away to Ballydehob. On a soft pitch Rovers played well but didn't trouble the Ballydehob goalkeeper despite having most of the possession. Rovers did finally go 1-0 up through Shaun O Sullivan 10 minutes from time. This proved to be the winning goal that lifted Rovers off the bottom of the table. With some more commitment by some Rovers can climb up the table to safety. Next Sunday they are at home to an in form Togher Celtic team who are currently in 3rd place in the table. In cup draws Rovers were drawn at home to Cloughduv in the West Cork Cup quarter final which will be played on st Stephens day. MATCH REPORT NOVEMBER 12th 2012
Bantry Bay Rovers News.
Last weekend saw 3 Rovers teams in action. First team up were the Rovers U13 team who traveled to Carrigaline to take on the local team in the 3rd round of the U13 National Cup. This was the first time a Rovers team played a match on the Astro turf. A very good Carrigaline team who have a lot of players on the Cork team ran out easy winners. Well done to the lads for reaching the 3rd round. In the afternoon Rovers U16 team played Clonakilty at home. A young team were well beaten by a good Clonakilty side with Shane Keevers getting the Rovers consolation goal. On Sunday Rovers junior team hosted Clonakilty AFC in Ballycomane Park in a crucial league game. Rovers who have been struggling to pick up points this season were hoping to build on their 3-3 draw with Baltimore. They started well with David Power and David Casey causing the Clonakilty defense all sorts off trouble early on. In the 9th minute it paid off as good play between David Power and David Casey set up Joe Downey who scored into the corner. In the 14th minute Clonakilty were on level terms when a free by Jeff Donoghue ended up in the top corner despite all efforts by Rovers goalkeeper Donal Casey. Just 4 minutes later Clonakilty should have taken the lead when a Martin White overhead kick flew just over the crossbar. With the game flowing at fast pace a few yellow cards were shown to both teams. Halftime score was 1-1. In the first minute of the second half Clonakilty took the lead when a defensive mistake left Martin White to score an easy goal. Rovers didn't sit back and Shane Drummey was unlucky to see his header been deflected for a corner. Ten minutes into the half saw both teams reduced to 10 men when two players received their second yellow cards after a tackle. Rovers responded well and started to put Clonakilty under pressure. The introduction of Aidan Mullins in the 59th minute gave Rovers more possession in the middle and they could push up more into the Clonakilty half. Rovers pushed centerback Paul Drummey, who scored some fine goals this season, up forward. This move paid off in the 88th minute when he played a tight 1-2 with Shane Drummey inside the Clonakilty penalty area where he shot into the far corner to bring Rovers level. Both teams went for the win in the final minutes with Rovers creating the better chances but the final score was 2-2. This was a much improved performance by Rovers who are beginning to show more consistency and determination. The draw moved Rovers of the bottom of the Premier League. Our online shop is now open. Orders for Christmas must be in by this Friday the 16th of November.
